University association’s female rectors ‘highly outnumbered’

Women comprise 18 per cent of rectors at EUA universities, leaving ‘much room for improvement’

Female rectors are still “highly outnumbered” by their male counterparts among the member institutions of the European University Association, according to the group, which represents more than 850 universities in 48 countries and so provides a large sample of the institutions across the continent.

At present, women make up roughly 29 per cent of vice-rectors and just 18 per cent of rectors at EUA member institutions, the association reported on 5 March, ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March.
