Emissions reduction plan boosts NZ research dollars

New Zealand climate plan foregrounds the role of science and promises new agricultural centre

The New Zealand government has published an emissions reduction plan that includes an increase in overall research funding to 2 per cent of GDP.

The plan, released on 16 May, calls for half of all New Zealand’s energy use to be from renewable sources by 2035, and it says the science system needs to be reoriented “to improve its ability to service a low-emissions future”.
