Warning of cuts to research funded by Foreign Office

Mystery over former £1.5 billion R&D budget leaves fate of research programmes uncertain

Institutions funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office have been warned to expect cuts to their research programmes, but also left in the dark on the details.

Melissa Leach, the director of the Institute of Development Studies, told Research Professional News that civil servants at the Foreign Office “have been suggesting that we should look at major budget cuts, but they’ve also been saying there is no formal decision yet”.
