Change in tone from Mariya Gabriel comes as EU launches legal action against UK
The EU’s research commissioner Mariya Gabriel has started to push for the UK to look at alternatives to joining its Horizon Europe R&D programme as the crisis in EU-UK relations deepens, Research Professional News has learned.
Gabriel met UK science minister George Freeman on Monday at a G7 meeting of research ministers in Germany. A European Commission spokesperson said that Gabriel told Freeman at the meeting “there are other ways to continue to cooperate under Horizon Europe without automatic funding”.
