UK scrapping cabinet science committee is ‘disappointing’

Sector bemoans axing of body designed to put science at heart of policymaking

Senior figures within the UK’s R&D sector have reacted with disappointment at the government scrapping the National Science and Technology Council, a cabinet committee designed to advance scientific research.

The NSTC has been thrown out by new prime minister Liz Truss just over a year after it was first set up by her predecessor, Boris Johnson, with a promise that it would help cement the UK’s position as a “science superpower”.
