Universities minister promoted as prime minister concludes his reshuffle
Michelle Donelan will now attend cabinet in what is viewed as a promotion for the current universities minister.
In the wake of the announcement there were rumours in Westminster that Donelan was also set to take on full responsibility for further education and skills, but the DfE later confirmed Alex Burghart would be the dedicated minister for skills and have responsibility for FE. Burghart and Donelan have joint responsibility for overall post-16 education strategy.
