Research-intensive universities warn of shrinking per-student funding

The Russell Group has called for the Westminster government to develop a new funding formula for higher education following an erosion of the amount universities receive per student from tuition fees and government grants.

The group of large research-intensive institutions said rising student demand, rapidly increasing costs and the ongoing freeze in maximum tuition fee levels means a new funding formula is required from 2024-25 in order to protect high-quality teaching.
